First San Francisco Update

First San Francisco Update

We’ve only been in San Francisco for a day and a half but it’s already been a pizza marathon!  Here is a short update on what we’ve been up to:

Day 1: Dinner and tour at A16.  Nathan Johnson from A16 was kind enough to give us an in depth tour of the behind the scenes operations at one of the first pizzerias in the San Francisco Bay area serving authentic Neapolitan style pizza.  With an extensive wine selection by wine pioneer Shelley Lindgren, and a deep menu all reflecting southern Italian cuisine, it was truly a treat to meet the staff that runs such a flawless operation.  The hospitality from this staff was impeccable and their open kitchen was engaging from the moment we sat down for dinner.  Here is a photo of the Pizza Bianca at A16.

Day 2: Lunch and tour at Tony’s Pizza Napoletana.  Tony Gemignani is an 8 time world champion pizza acrobat and world champion pizza maker.  He owns and operates his pizzeria in San Francisco, one in Sacramento and New York.  He also has 4 different style ovens in one restaurant! His menu features pizza selections from every style of pizza genre and let me tell you from what we tried he has mastered them all! We tried his margherita pizza and the newest addition to his menu the pizza Futura.  The pizza margherita was spot on and the pizza Futura is one of the most creative and delicious pizzas we have ever eaten.  A HUGE thank you to Steve Coomes for setting this meeting up for us!

We are on our way to Una Pizza Napoletana tonight for dinner! The pizza extravaganza continues so stayed tuned! So little time and so many pies to try!
